Wimbledon Embraces Video Challenge Technology in 2025.

The Championships court with video review system

The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Replay systems will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.

Athletes are granted the option to challenge particular rulings from the official, echoing the protocol already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step comes just a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the umpire to re-examine other decisions, such as:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
  • Possible interference end of a point.

Notably, there is no cap on the number of challenges a competitor can initiate.

Case in Point

A recent example took place in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.

Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules quite well."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further change at Wimbledon this year will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.

This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was out or in.

Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
